Why is data recovery so expensive?
Because we don’t skimp on quality and professionalism. When recovering data, any unprofessional attempt to read the data can have fatal consequences. We don’t take any risks.
Not only do we have a well-equipped clean room laboratory, we continue to develop our technologies and processes and adapt them to requirements, and we also rely on the decades of experience of our well-trained engineers. We always work true to our motto: “Valuable people – valuable data” and are only satisfied with the result when you are satisfied.
Data recovery at KUERT means the latest technology paired with the work of our highly qualified engineers. Plus a service that is transparent and fair.
Calculation / pricing
Our calculations are based on the individual damage, the enormous effort and the technological solutions. Our data recovery prices are generally only possible through a complex mixed calculation.
- 50 % working time (repairs, personnel effort for manual work steps both in the laboratory and for the logical restoration of the data)
- 25 % work equipment (class R100 laboratory and equipment, electricity, clean room technology, equipment, measuring devices, work devices, software/hardware, etc.)
- 15 % development (in-house development of technologies / new methods for reading the chip, software development, adjustments depending on the order)
- 10 % other costs (administration, logistics, warehousing, marketing, etc.)
What is checked during the analysis?
Before we give a prediction as to whether we can rescue the data from a storage medium, we must first look at the existing damage.
Therefore, the first step before any data recovery is the analysis by our data recovery engineers: a comprehensive examination of the data carrier with regard to data recovery options. We examine the physical condition of the data carrier to determine the type and extent of the damage. Damaged hard drives are only opened in the clean room. If a further investigation of the data structures at a logical level is possible, this is also carried out using various software tools, some of which have been developed in-house.
You will then receive our detailed analysis report with an assessment of the chances of success and, if possible, our offer on a success basis. At this point you can decide whether you would like to commission us to recover your data.
Because of our success-based data recovery offers, we always have the same interest as you in an honest and serious assessment of the data recovery options. To ensure this, we always carry out our analyzes with great care.
We therefore do not offer quick initial investigations within a few hours, but rather treat every data recovery case with the necessary conscientiousness.
What is your success rate?
One thing first: KUERT consciously takes the other path… the serious one.
Over the years, there has been a real struggle in the data recovery industry to outdo competitors with supposedly even higher success rates, all of which are close to 100 %. What is measured as success is often disguised or embellished. It is important to remember that read but unusable data fragments on paper can already be a “successful” data recovery… An example: Let’s assume that we can save 1,000,000 pieces of data, but exactly your one important file is not among them… Would be in your opinion, the data recovery successful?
KUERT decided many years ago not to participate in this “marketing game” without any real significance, but rather to see the success of data recovery through the same eyes as our customers. For us, success is measured by satisfaction, not by sugar-coated statistics.
Accordingly, we offer our data recovery on a success basis: Our customers determine for themselves which data is most important, and only if at least 80 % of this data can be functionally restored is a rescue at KUERT considered successful!
Our customers rate us on various portals, see for yourself!
What does success basis mean?
At KUERT, data recovery is usually based on success, which means that the customer only pays the full data recovery price if the data recovery is successful from their point of view!
You can determine the basis for success with us by explicitly telling us the data that is most important to you, e.g. images or even more precisely: by specifying folder or file names, formats, dates, etc.
Often not all data is needed or is considered less important by our customers, we understand that. They tell us to save everything that is possible, but we only consider the data recovery to be successful when we have functionally restored at least 80 % of the total data originally stored on the data storage medium.
Is there a guarantee that my data will be saved?
Unfortunately, there are never any guarantees when it comes to data recovery. Guarantee promises, especially before any examination of a data carrier, are simply dubious.
Data recovery is a complex process and always involves many unknowns. Many factors play a role: the physical condition of the data carrier, the fragmentation of the data, the success of modifying any faulty control algorithms, etc. If the magnetic disks of a hard drive are damaged, we cannot know in advance whether your important data is on intact or defective sectors were stored.
As a specialist in the field of data recovery for over 30 years, our experience helps us to treat each case individually and always achieve the best possible result through optimized solutions.
We generally refrain from making empty promises. Instead, we honestly seek your trust: We will make you an offer for data recovery based on success!
Can't you just fix it?
Since we are a professional company focused on data recovery, we do not take any risks. After all, it’s about your data.
If there is already damage on the magnetic disks, we cannot correct this on the original data carrier. We will exchange defective read heads, but only to create a 1:1 sector-based copy. You can no longer use the hard drive. Newly installed read heads would repeatedly hit the defective sectors, worsen the damage and break off again.
Even if “only” the external electronics are apparently damaged, we will exchange them for an identical one in order to create a 1:1 image. Each image is then examined for logical errors in the file system, repaired if necessary and the passive data area is recorded using RAW scans. We can leave the rescue result to you on a new target storage medium with a clear conscience.
How do I know that the data recovery was successful?
After the data recovery is completed, you will receive our KUERT file list, which allows you to easily and clearly check the recovered result.
Saved folders and files are marked with self-explanatory symbols (green tick = functional, red cross = defective). There is also an image preview function for photos. The file list also provides information about what percentage and amount of data could be saved.
If the creation of such a file list does not make sense, e.g. with unnamed video files, we can enable you to check your data in other ways. For example, this can be done remotely so that you can access the recovered data for review from your home or our office.
Before data recovery costs are billed, you will be able to check the data recovery result.
How long does data recovery take?
The duration of a data recovery is influenced by many factors. In addition to the selected service level (Express or Standard), the type and capacity of the data carrier, the type and extent of the damage, the need for replacement parts, the amount of data and much more are of crucial importance.
A firm statement about the processing time in advance of an analysis would therefore not be serious.
Furthermore, we always try to achieve the best possible result, so that – for your benefit – we do not end the data recovery with a stopwatch, but only when we have done our best.
Data recovery can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks (in particularly critical cases). The average processing time for our standard service is 1 to 3 weeks, depending on utilization, capacity and damage.
What does it mean, that the data need to be functionally restored?
The data recovery is considered successful if at least 80 % of the important files specified in advance are functionally recoverable.
But what does functional mean? Functional means that the files can be read, opened and, if necessary, edited correctly in the relevant programs without any logical errors.
Images without pixel errors, videos can be played correctly and data sets are complete. Some data can only be read into the corresponding application in order to “work”. We also have to ensure their functionality in the software.
How do I get my data back?
After a successful data recovery, followed by checking and confirming the file list on your part, there are several options for how you can get your data.
The data is saved on a new, external target storage medium depending on the data volume or, for smaller data volumes of up to 16 GB, made available as a download from our secure SFTP server. We will offer you a suitable data medium with the file list or you can provide us an external, empty, unencrypted storage medium (e.g. USB stick, SSD or HDD) also.
The data carrier with the rescued data will then be sent to you or can be picked up from us.
To protect your data, it is encrypted before sending. The connection is also encrypted when downloading the data from our server.
Can I still use the old data carrier?
In case of physical damage: No. If the problem is purely logical: under certain circumstances, yes.
Even if, for example, we repair a physically damaged hard drive during data recovery, we do this solely with the aim of putting it in a sufficiently stable state that initialization is possible and we can read out the data and copy it on a sector-based basis. However, despite the repair, the data carrier will not be permanently functional again and will remain damaged. Damage to magnetic disks, for example, is simply irreparable. If you continued to use it, the damage would only get worse.
If the cause of the error is purely logical, the situation may be different. For example, if you accidentally deleted data or reformatted the data storage medium, the drive will still be physically functional without any restrictions. In such cases, we first create a copy of the entire memory contents, on which we then carry out the data recovery processes.
Your data carrier remains unchanged and can continue to be used.
